Intel Core i7-5700HQ

Intel Core i7-5700HQ is a powerful quad-core processor released in June 2015. Based on Broadwell microarchitecture, it features Hyper-Threading technology. The processor’s base frequency is 2.7 GHz, while the maximum Turbo frequency is 3.5 GHz for all number of cores (single, dual, and quad).

With 14nm manufacturing process and FinFET transistors, Broadwell offers significant improvement in power efficiency. In addition, the smaller die size makes it possible to fit in smaller devices. The new microarchitecture offers more than 5 percent performance per clock improvement over Haswell thanks to bigger buffer size (1500), improved branch prediction, and other tweaks.

In terms of performance, it’s more powerful than i7-4750HQ from the previous generation. The CPU is powerful enough to run demanding applications for sure.

The integrated graphics card is Intel HD Graphics 5600, which is the successor of HD Graphics 4600 on Haswell processors. The GPU has 24 Execution Units (EUs) and it supports DirectX 11.2, OpenCL 1.3/2.0, and also OpenGL 4.3. Video output via both DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 1.4a is supported as well. Unfortunately, HDMI 2.0 is not supported. With Intel Gen 8 GPU architecture, performance-per-clock is improved over its predecessor. It’s about 20 percent faster than HD Graphics 4600. However, the performance is below entry-level discrete GPUs such as GeForce 920M. Graphics-demanding games are not playable smoothly if the device is not equipped with discrete-class GPU.

The TDP of i7-5700HQ is 47W which includes all components such as VRMs, memory controller, and graphics card. In CPU-only workloads, the power consumption is much lower. This processor is suitable for gaming laptops and multimedia laptops.
