Asus VivoBook 14 X442UF

Asus X442UF, a VivoBook 14 model, is a stylish conventional laptop with decent performance. It’s powered by one of Intel Kaby Lake R processors, either Core i5-8250U or Core i7-8550U. Those processors have 4 cores, 8 threads (with Hyper Threading technology) and Intel UHD graphics 620. In addition, it uses NVIDIA GeForce MX130 as discrete-class graphics so that it can handle graphics demanding apps pretty well.

This Vivobook has a 14.0-inch display with 45% NTSC. It’s either an HD (1366 x 768 pixels) display with glare panel or a Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) display with anti-glare panel. As usual, it comes with the manufacturer’s Splendid technology, which allows you to select color mode easily. In addition, ASUS Tru2Life Video technology is used to make video quality better.

This laptop supports dual-storage. On the first slot, it can have a hard drive up to 1 TB. On the other slot, it may have an SSD up to 512 GB. Therefore you’ll get the benefit of HDD’s large capacity and SSD’s speed and durability. As for system memory, it uses DDR4 technology with a frequency of 2400 MHz. The on-board memory is either 4 GB or 8 GB and there is a SO-DIMM socket where you can put up to 8 GB. So, models with 4 GB and 8 GB on-board memory will have maximum memory of 12 GB and 16 GB respectively.

There are many ports on the Asus X442UF. You’ll find a combo audio jack, an HDMI port, a VGA port, a USB 3.1 Type C port, a USB 3.0 Type A port, a USB 2.0 port, an RJ45 network connector and a power-adapter plug. On the right side, there is also a Super-Multi DVD drive and a card reader slot. The keyboard has chiclet keys, while a touchpad with multi-touch control is below the keyboard.

For wireless data transfer, it’s equipped with either 802.11b/g/n or 802.11ac wireless adapter. It also has built-in Bluetooth v4.0 adapter. As for audio, it brings SonicMaster technology for a better audio output and AudioWizard software for easy audio control. Unfortunately the webcam only supports up to VGA recording. Inside, there is a 3-cell Lithium-Polymer battery. A thickness of 23.6 mm is not bad for a laptop with dual-storage and built-in optical drive. It weighs about 1.8 kg including the battery, but it may vary based on configurations.
